The Driving Theory Test

The Driving Theory Test is made up of two parts, a multiple choice questions section and a hazard perception section.

You will need to pass both the multiple choice and the hazard perception test in order to successfully pass the theory test. You will need to do this prior to booking you practical test.

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS

The multiple choice section consists of 50 multiple choice questions and lasts for about an hour. A question and several possible answers will appear on a computer screen and you have to select the correct answer, using the touch screen system. Some questions may need you to select more than one option. You will need to answer at least 43 questions correctly to pass.

The touch screen system is easy to use and clear instructions are given before the test starts. You can choose to do a practice session before the real test starts.

HAZARD PERCEPTION

The Hazard Perception test consists of 14 video clips that feature every day road scenes. Each clip contains at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will contain two developing hazards. A developing hazard is something that may result in you having to take some action, such as changing your speed or direction.

As soon as you see a hazard developing, you should respond by pressing the mouse button. The earlier you notice a developing hazard and make a response, the higher you will score. The most you can score for each developing hazard is five points. To pass the hazard perception section you must score at least 44 out of a possible 75 points.
